Skiing

The most common injury to skiers is to the knees. Sprain of the ligaments surrounding the knee and strain of the musculature around the knee are very common conditions, especially if the ski failed to release during a fall. Other common areas of injury include the hip, lower back, and the thumb due to improperly looping ski poles (check out a blog about thumb injuries in skiers by pressing HERE ).

Snowboarding

The most common area injured in snowboarders is the wrist. Wrist injuries are especially prevalent in beginners and terrain park athletes who sustain many falls landing on an outstretched arm. Other common injuries include shoulder strain and ankle sprain.

Evaluation of snowboarding and skiing injures may require X-Ray or diagnostic ultrasound to rule out fracture or excessive damage to ligaments and tendons. These evaluation can be performed in office, and referral to the most suitable medical provider for your condition can be made.
